The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office celebrated officers for their crucial roles in saving lives and enhancing community safety. Deputy Martin Perez and Corporal Brandon Kennedy revived an overdose victim, while Sergeant Timothy Owens diffused a potential suicide attempt. Captain Scott Gay was recognized for his strategic security preparations for the upcoming Masters Tournament. These commendations reflect the officers’ commitment to public service and building trust within the community.

Augusta, Georgia – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) has honored four officers for their exceptional actions and commitment to serving the community, showcasing the profound impact of law enforcement on public safety. Sheriff Eugene Brantley announced the commendations, emphasizing the importance of these officers’ actions in aligning with the RCSO’s mission to protect lives, serve with integrity, and strengthen community trust.

Among the recognized officers, Deputy Martin Perez and Corporal Brandon Kennedy played crucial roles in a life-saving incident that occurred in the early hours of March 29. They responded to a report of an overdose at a location on the 3000 block of Deans Bridge Road at approximately 2 a.m. Upon arriving, they encountered William Marciall, who was found unresponsive and without a pulse despite being administered Narcan, a drug used to reverse opioid overdoses.

Understanding the urgency of the situation, Deputy Perez immediately began performing CPR on Marciall, with Corporal Kennedy providing support. Their prompt and decisive actions were instrumental in restoring Marciall’s heartbeat before an ambulance arrived on the scene. The successful revival of the man highlights the critical nature of timely interventions in medical emergencies.

In a separate event on March 28, Sergeant Timothy Owens intervened during a potential suicide attempt on the Fifth Street Bridge. Displaying a calm demeanor and effective communication skills, Owens engaged with the individual for several hours, gradually working towards a peaceful resolution. His efforts in defusing the crisis not only saved a life but also demonstrated the importance of mental health awareness and the role officers play in crisis situations.

Additionally, Captain Scott Gay received recognition for his strategic planning and coordination efforts as the security supervisor for the upcoming 2025 Masters Tournament. His meticulous preparations are aimed at providing comprehensive law enforcement coverage, enhancing safety, and ensuring the smooth execution of one of Augusta’s most prestigious events. The Masters Tournament attracts thousands of attendees each year, making effective crowd management and security a priority for local law enforcement agencies.

These commendations highlight the dedication and professionalism exhibited by the officers of the RCSO. The department’s proactive approach in recognizing and honoring outstanding service cultivates a sense of motivation among officers and strengthens trust within the community. By acknowledging acts of bravery and commitment to public service, the sheriff’s office reinforces its mission to maintain safety and uphold the values of integrity and community service.

Background information on the RCSO reveals a focus on community engagement and crime prevention, with initiatives aimed at fostering a collaborative environment between law enforcement and residents. This approach not only aids in effective policing but also supports efforts in building stronger neighborhoods through trust and mutual respect.

The actions of these officers serve as a testament to the positive impact police officers can have in serious situations, reminding the community that their law enforcement professionals are vigilant and committed to their safety. The recognition ceremonies represent more than just commendations; they symbolize the ongoing dedication of the RCSO to protect and serve the citizens of Richmond County.
