News Summary

Authorities in Augusta are searching for Chad Adams, who faces serious charges related to the exploitation of a disabled elderly man. Adams allegedly took a blank check intended for home improvement work and cashed it for $20,000 without permission. The case raises significant concerns regarding the financial protection of vulnerable seniors. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to help locate Adams as the investigation continues.

Augusta, Georgia – Authorities are actively searching for Chad Adams, a 41-year-old resident of North Augusta, who is wanted in connection with a fraud case involving the exploitation of a disabled elderly man. Adams is facing serious charges of theft by conversion and exploitation of an elderly or disabled person.

The investigation began following an incident that occurred on December 6, 2022, at a home on Curry Street in Augusta. The victim, a 77-year-old man who is disabled, reported the fraudulent activities to law enforcement on March 21, 2023. It has been revealed that the victim’s children hold power of attorney for him.

According to reports, the elderly victim provided Adams with a signed blank check for what was supposed to be home improvement work. However, the promised work was never completed. Authorities have stated that Adams was not licensed to perform any of the work he was purportedly hired for. Rather than fulfilling any contractual obligation, Adams allegedly transformed that blank check into a personal gain by making it out to himself for the amount of $20,000.

Further complicating the case, when the victim confronted Adams regarding the check, he is accused of cashing it without obtaining the victim’s permission. This action highlights the alleged exploitation of a vulnerable individual, raising serious concerns about the protection of elderly citizens from financial crimes.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is calling for the public’s help in locating Chad Adams. He is described as being approximately 6 feet tall and weighing around 250 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The authorities encourage anyone with information about Adams’ whereabouts to get in touch with Investigator Clifford Banks or any on-call investigator at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office by dialing 706-261-0425 or 706-821-1020.

This case is part of a broader concern regarding the safety and financial security of elderly individuals, especially those who are disabled and may rely on others for assistance. As incidents of elder fraud continue to increase, families are urged to monitor financial transactions closely and ensure that any caregivers or contractors are properly vetted and licensed.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the well-being of its residents, particularly vulnerable populations such as the elderly. The ongoing effort to locate Chad Adams underscores the seriousness with which law enforcement is treating this case.

The consequences of exploitation not only harm the individuals involved but also place a burden on families who must deal with the aftermath of such fraudulent actions. As the investigation progresses, authorities hope to bring Adams to justice and provide some level of closure to the victim and his family.

Additional updates related to the case are anticipated as the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into this troubling situation. The safety of elderly individuals in the community remains a top priority, and these types of incidents will not be tolerated.
