Augusta, GA – Augusta University’s Military and Veteran Services (MVS) has achieved a Silver recognition from Military Friendly Schools for the 2025-26 academic year. This prestigious designation acknowledges the university’s ongoing commitment to supporting military students within its educational framework.
The Military Friendly Schools designation evaluates educational institutions based on their dedication to military students. The assessment utilizes public data sources, as well as proprietary survey responses that examine various aspects of support for these students. Topics covered in the surveys are developed by an independent advisory council composed of veteran education experts to ensure the evaluation is both comprehensive and relevant. The scoring process for the recognition is entirely automated, allowing for an efficient and standardized assessment.
Dr. Stefane Raulerson, the director of MVS, emphasized that this recognition affirms the quality of services provided to military students at Augusta University. The MVS offers a range of support structures which include a Student Veterans of America chapter, a Gold Star Family student organization, and a newly established military spouse connection group. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to create a supportive community for military-affiliated individuals.
In addition to these organizations, MVS is planning events open to the public in the upcoming year to further engage and support the military community. The department places a strong emphasis on providing prompt responses to inquiries and assists military students in navigating the admissions process and securing their benefits. This includes offering one-on-one assistance and group information sessions that address financial aid, admissions, and other important aspects of student life.
Augusta University has maintained its designation as a Military Friendly School since 2016, reflecting its commitment to creating a supportive environment for military service members and their families. This effort includes specific recognition for being “friendly” towards military spouses, enhancing the overall academic experience for these individuals.
Currently, Augusta University is categorized as a large public school, which typically accommodates over 9,000 students across various academic programs. During the latest spring semester, there are more than 1,500 military students enrolled at the university, representing nearly 15% of the total student population. Of these military students, approximately 800 are receiving military educational benefits, underscoring the significant role this demographic plays within the university community.
The Military Friendly designation critically includes metrics related to financial support, engagement strategies, and academic assistance tailored for military populations. Data is collected to evaluate key factors such as progression, retention, and graduation rates among active duty members, veterans, reservists, and their dependents.
The upcoming 2025-26 Military Friendly Schools list is set to be published in G.I. Jobs magazine and on its official website, showcasing institutions that have achieved this distinguished status. This recognition is essential for helping prospective military students identify universities that not only prioritize academic excellence but also understand and cater to their unique needs.
