Augusta – A routine traffic stop on May 12 resulted in the arrest of 46-year-old Antonio Rodiquez Tyler, who was taken into custody following the discovery of outstanding warrants and evidence linking him to multiple burglary incidents.

The traffic stop occurred around 4:21 p.m. at the intersection of Apple Valley Drive and Mike Padgett Highway. Deputy Noah Johnson, a member of the Crime Suppression Team, stopped a green 1998 Buick LeSabre that was displaying a paper tag. During the stop, deputies found that Tyler had an outstanding warrant for second-degree burglary.

The warrant in question was related to a break-in at a Burger King on Gordon Highway in November 2024. Along with the burglary warrant, Tyler also had an active felony failure to appear warrant that contributed to his arrest. The traffic stop not only led to his capture but also uncovered evidence that linked him to two additional burglaries that occurred just a day prior.

In total, Tyler now faces charges for three counts of second-degree burglary, which includes the recent burglaries at a Chevron gas station on Walton Way and a Dollar General store on Peach Orchard Road, both occurring on May 11, 2024. The evidence that led to these additional charges was gathered during the traffic stop and bolstered by prior investigative work from the Criminal Investigations Division.

The arrest underscores the crucial role of traffic stops in policing, particularly in apprehending individuals wanted for serious crimes. Law enforcement officials, including Sheriff Eugene Brantley, have emphasized the importance of situational awareness and investigative skills during such encounters.

Currently, Tyler is being held at the Richmond County Jail, where he awaits further legal proceedings. The investigation into his activities remains ongoing, and there is a potential for additional charges to be filed as authorities continue to gather evidence and information regarding his alleged criminal activities.

The combination of routine traffic enforcement and diligent investigative efforts showcases how local law enforcement is actively working to maintain public safety and address criminal behavior in the community.

As the situation develops, the community is encouraged to stay informed about updates related to Tyler’s case and the ongoing investigation into the recent burglary incidents.
