An ornamental metal gate will be part of the design, which is intended to remain open during regular operation hours to facilitate ease of access.

Positioned strategically, the main entrance will be located where Bussey Lane and Old Trail Road intersect with Flowing Wells Road. To enhance security further, a secondary fence will be extended over 500 feet from either side of the new gate, reaching both edges of the property line along Flowing Wells Road.

The construction will occur in two distinct phases, depending on the availability of funding. The first phase will focus on the monumental entrance, which is expected to be constructed immediately and completed over the upcoming summer months. The second phase, which involves erecting the adjoining security fence, will proceed as funds become available.

Augusta Preparatory Day School was established in 1960, originally serving as a middle and high school. In 1988, the institution merged with Augusta Country Day School, expanding its offerings to include elementary grades. Currently, Augusta Prep has an enrollment of approximately 420 students, with plans to increase capacity to a maximum of 600 pupils in the future.

The request for a zoning variance reflects both the school’s commitment to student safety and its intention to improve campus infrastructure to accommodate potential growth. By modernizing its entrance and reinforcing security measures, Augusta Prep aims to create a welcoming yet secure environment for its students and faculty.
