After a distinguished military career featuring numerous awards, Michael transitioned to working in human resources and continued to pursue his passion for art and music. He is survived by his loving family, with a Celebration of Life scheduled to honor his legacy.
Augusta, GA – LTC (Ret) Michael Andre’ Moore, a distinguished military leader and talented artist, passed away on March 9, 2025, at the age of 84. His death marks the end of a notable life dedicated to service, creativity, and community involvement.
Michael, originally from Dallas, TX, was the only child of Kenneth D. and Julia Irene Moore. He joined the Army in 1960 and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1961. Over the course of his military career, he served in various locations including Ft. Benning, GA, and Ft. Carson, CO, as well as overseas postings in Worms, Germany, and Camp Uijeongbu, Korea. He completed three combat tours in Vietnam and held positions at educational military institutions such as Wentworth Military College and Ft. Leavenworth, KS. Michael retired from the Army in 1984 after a decorated tenure.
Throughout his military service, Michael received numerous prestigious awards, underscoring his bravery and dedication. Among these were the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was also awarded the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with both Palm and Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Parachutist Badge, reflecting his significant contributions and sacrifices during his years of service.
After retiring from the Army, Michael transitioned to civilian life, initially working in the automobile business with Bob Beard Ford before securing a position in human resources at the Augusta VA Hospital. This shift demonstrated his commitment to serving his community well beyond military service.
Michael’s artistic talents also flourished during and after his military career. He was a gifted artist, with one of his impressive combat paintings displayed at the OCS Library in Ft. Benning, GA. His creative spirit extended to music, where he played with friends, such as Hershel Gober and Kris Kristofferson, while stationed in Worms, Germany. In Vietnam, he entertained troops with a band called the Black Patches. His last performance with his band members took place at a reunion in Jacksonville Beach, FL, in October 2021, showcasing his enduring passion for music.
Michael is survived by his wife, Lynn Moore of Neptune Beach, FL, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage. His legacy continues through his children: Amanda Moore of Brooklyn, NY, and Kenneth Moore (Jade) of Ft. Myers, FL. He also leaves behind children from his previous marriage, including Scott Moore (Becky) and LeAnne M. Lovering, all residing in Augusta, GA. Additionally, Michael is remembered by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his Aunt Eva Merle Myers and Uncle George Beckner.
The family has expressed gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Brianna Juhn, whom Mike considered an adopted granddaughter. In honor of his life and contributions, a Celebration of Life is scheduled for May 24 at Woodbine West’s Clubhouse in Augusta, GA. His interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, a fitting tribute to his service to the nation.
