Augusta – A bicyclist tragically lost her life early Monday morning following a collision on Peach Orchard Road at the intersection with Willis Foreman Road. The Richmond County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the incident, which occurred at approximately 4:44 a.m.
According to the coroner’s report, emergency responders arrived on the scene to find the female bicyclist, who had been traveling northbound on Peach Orchard Road, had been struck by a vehicle. She was declared dead at 5:32 a.m. The identity of the victim will be released by the coroner’s office once next of kin has been notified. Meanwhile, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
This incident marks another unfortunate event on Peach Orchard Road, a stretch that has seen several severe accidents in recent months. Just last month, on May 5, 2025, an 8-year-old boy named Camden Poole lost his life on the same road, after being involved in a crash at Tobacco Road. Camden was remembered as a student at Hephzibah Elementary School.
In a series of other tragic incidents reported recently, Andrew Pregel, 58, died following a two-car crash on Mike Padgett Highway on May 7, 2025. Additionally, another fatality occurred on May 8, 2025, when 56-year-old Darrell Walker was killed at the intersection of Deans Bridge Road and Dover Street. These accidents underscore the ongoing concerns about road safety in the Augusta area.
On the same morning as the bicyclist’s death, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office looked into a separate but related incident involving a shooting that took place on Whaley Street. The investigations into both the shooting and the bicyclist’s crash continue, as community members and law enforcement seek answers and clarity regarding the troubling rise in fatalities on local roads.
Authorities encourage anyone with information regarding these incidents to come forward as the investigations unfold. As the community mourns the loss of another life, questions about road safety and measures to prevent future tragedies remain at the forefront of local discourse.
As Augusta grapples with these events, it remains essential for all drivers and cyclists to exercise caution on the roads, ensuring safety for everyone who shares them.
