Augusta, GA – Three prominent community figures—Harriet Starks, Gary Lynn Fulmer, and James I Webb—passed away in May 2025, leaving behind lasting legacies in their respective fields and communities.

Obituary for Harriet Starks

Mrs. Harriet Starks entered into rest on Thursday, May 15, 2025. A funeral service for Harriet will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Williams Funeral Home Chapel. Following the service, interment will occur at Westover Cemetery. Friends and family may view Mrs. Starks on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home, located at 1765 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Harriet Starks leaves behind her two sons, Gregory (Carolyn) Starks and Malcolm (Annette) Starks. She is also survived by her grandson, Travis Starks, granddaughter, Tamara Starks-Williams, and three great-grandchildren: Beckett Edward-Starks, Sullivan Starks, and Sienna Starks. Additionally, Harriet had three sisters—Elvin Colbert, Myrtice Gresham, and Mary Williams—and one brother, Ollie Williams, who mourn her passing.

Obituary for Gary Lynn Fulmer

Mr. Gary Lynn Fulmer passed away at the age of 74 on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. He is remembered as the beloved husband of Mrs. Barbara Swanson Fulmer and a devoted member of Warren Baptist Church. Gary was also a proud veteran of the United States Marine Reserves. His memorial service is set for Friday, May 16, 2025, at 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors.

Fulmer had an impressive 40-year career in sales with Boral Brick Company, recognized for his integrity and dedication. He played baseball during his college years at South Georgia Junior College and Augusta College, completing his bachelor’s degree with pride. Gary is survived by his daughters—Michelle Fleming (Johnny), Katie Dachenhausen (Trey), and Ashton Mims (Patrick)—and three grandchildren: Preston Dachenhausen, Dawson Dachenhausen, and Jack Mims. Memorial contributions in his honor can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Obituary for James I Webb

Mr. James I Webb passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Known as a beloved local architect and devoted family man, James was born in Eufaula, Alabama, and was a longtime resident of Augusta. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from Southern Polytechnic State University in 1975 and was noted for his exceptional talent in hand drafting, alongside his passion for the works of Frank Lloyd Wright.

James founded Sandeford and Webb Architects, eventually merging to form Studio 3 Design Group. His commitment to preserving Augusta’s historical sites made him a champion of historic preservation in the community. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Amanda Hennessy (James), and two grandchildren, Harper Hope Hennessy and James Daniel Hennessy. Visitation for Mr. Webb will occur at Platts Funeral Home in Augusta on May 21, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Cornerstone Classical Academy and the Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville.

The loss of these three community figures marks a significant moment for the residents of Augusta. They each contributed uniquely to their families, professions, and the community at large, and they will be remembered fondly by those they touched during their lives.
