Augusta – A tragic hit-and-run incident on Monday has resulted in the death of a 24-year-old pedestrian, Taveon Wright, who was crossing Windsor Spring Road at approximately 2:08 p.m. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, located near the 3600 block of Windsor Spring Road, after reports of the accident.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Wright lying in the roadway. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at 2:45 p.m. by the Richmond County Coroner’s office. The circumstances surrounding his passing have raised significant concern in the community, prompting an ongoing investigation.
The alleged driver involved in the hit-and-run, identified as 45-year-old Chiquita Dawson, fled the scene shortly after the collision. Witnesses reported that she abandoned her vehicle and drove to the Richmond County Fire Department Station 18, located along Windsor Spring Road. Once there, Dawson attempted to escape on foot; however, deputies were able to apprehend her quickly.
