Augusta University Athletics has recorded a departmental GPA of 3.35 for Spring 2025, marking the highest in its history and the 18th consecutive semester above 3.0. With 79% of student-athletes achieving 3.0 or better, the success reflects dedication and support for academic excellence. Additionally, a mini commencement honored student-athletes Avery Jaynes and Emily McBride for their achievements. The establishment of an Athletics Hall of Fame further underscores the university’s commitment to excellence in both athletics and academics.
Augusta, Georgia – Augusta University Athletics has set a new standard for academic achievement with a remarkable departmental GPA of 3.35 for the Spring 2025 semester. This performance marks the highest semester GPA in the institution’s history, as well as the highest for the entire 2024-25 academic year, which averaged 3.34.
All National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sports programs within Augusta University reached a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, with 79% of student-athletes achieving a GPA of 3.0 or better during the semester. An impressive 41 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, and 117 reached a GPA of 3.5 or above. This achievement marks the 18th consecutive semester that the athletic department has maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The success of Augusta University Athletics reflects both the dedication of student-athletes to their academic pursuits and the support provided by the institution. Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Administration highlighted the hard work and discipline exhibited by these athletes in balancing their sports commitments with academic responsibilities. Similarly, the Director of Athletics expressed pride in the unwavering commitment to academic excellence shown by the student-athletes.
Fourteen out of the fifteen athletic programs at Augusta University reported team GPAs of 3.0 or higher, highlighting the collective academic success of the department. This strong performance underlines the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of excellence in both athletics and academics.
In a separate event, Augusta University held a special mini commencement ceremony for student-athletes Avery Jaynes and Emily McBride. Both graduated but could not attend the main graduation ceremony due to a national track meet. Jaynes is a two-time Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Runner of the Year and holds multiple records in distance running events. McBride is recognized as a USTFCCCA All-Region honoree and holds the school record in the 3,000m steeplechase.
The mini commencement ceremony included remarks from university leadership and was complemented by a keynote address from Retired Brig. Gen. Jeff Foley, further exemplifying the significance of academic achievement in conjunction with athletic performance at Augusta University.
Augusta University has also taken steps to recognize the enduring impact of its athletic programs through the establishment of an inaugural Athletics Hall of Fame. This initiative honors individuals and teams that have made significant contributions to Jaguar Athletics. Inductees included Kacee Camp-Morris, renowned as Augusta’s first Academic All-American, and Dr. William A. Bloodworth Jr., who provided leadership from 1993 until 2012.
Other notable honorees included Nick Evans, Clint Bryant, and legendary coach Marvin Vanover, each recognized for their roles in enhancing the athletic department’s profile and success. Additionally, the 2010 and 2011 Augusta University Men’s Golf teams were celebrated as Teams of Distinction for their back-to-back national championships, highlighting the potential of Augusta’s programs to achieve excellence on multiple fronts.
This record-breaking academic performance not only reaffirms Augusta University Athletics’ commitment to excellence but also enhances the reputation of its athletic programs as strong supporters of student success and achievement in higher education.
