A shooting incident at MacArthur Park Apartments in Augusta resulted in one fatality and one injury late Thursday night. Deputies responded to reports of gunfire, finding two victims with gunshot wounds. Kameron Mason, a 28-year-old, was pronounced dead, while the condition of the second victim remains undisclosed. The incident is under investigation amid rising concerns of violent crime in the area, highlighting a troubling trend that has seen multiple fatalities in recent days.
Augusta, Georgia – A shooting incident at MacArthur Park Apartments left one man dead and another injured late Thursday night. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:28 PM to reports of gunfire at the complex located at 110 Integrity Drive.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Kameron Mason, a 28-year-old resident of Augusta, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:36 PM. An autopsy for Mason has been scheduled to determine the cause of death. The second victim, whose identity remains unknown, was transported to Wellstar MCG Health for medical treatment. Details regarding their condition have not been disclosed.
Witnesses reported that the shooting may have originated from an altercation involving several individuals who allegedly refused to vacate the apartment complex’s pool area, which has reportedly been a point of contention due to unauthorized access by non-residents. This frequent issue has led to multiple calls for law enforcement intervention at the complex.
In light of ongoing safety concerns, management at MacArthur Park Apartments has implemented enhanced security measures in recent months. These upgrades include the installation of surveillance cameras and improvements to access controls at the facility.

This tragic event marks the second fatal shooting in Augusta within a span of just a few days. Earlier, on Wednesday night, Jaquavious Watkins was also killed in a shooting on Lumpkin Road and was pronounced dead at 8:20 PM. In addition, earlier in the week, a body was discovered in a shallow grave near the 15th Street bridge, and 53-year-old Cherie Hewitt was fatally shot on Whaley Street on Monday.
The recent rise in violent crime in Augusta has raised significant concerns within the community. Over the past three years, approximately 200 lives have been lost in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), highlighting a distressing trend in violence across the region.
