Augusta witnessed a vibrant weekend filled with various community events, concerts, and festivals, attracting a diverse crowd eager to join in the summer festivities. Highlights included a concert by Phaze 360 and the opening of a new mobile laundry facility by Compass For Hope, both contributing to the energetic atmosphere.

On Sunday, Phaze 360 performed at the Augusta Common as part of the city’s candlelight music series. This weekly series showcases both local and regional artists and will continue until the end of September, creating a perfect outdoor setting for music lovers. Attendance has been increasing, particularly with families enjoying the start of summer breaks.

Sharla Hambrick, the recreation events manager, noted the diverse demographic present at the events throughout Augusta. The increasing attendance signifies the community’s growing interest in engaging in local activities.

Coincidentally, the mobile laundry facility established by Compass For Hope on Sunday at the site of the demolished James Brown Arena aims to support those in need within the community. This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to cater to the basic needs of the city’s residents, particularly those facing financial difficulties.

The Columbia County Exhibition Center also hosted an Anime festival, featuring voice actors, cosplayers, and over 85 vendors, attracting numerous enthusiasts eager to celebrate their interests. For those interested in local arts, the Augusta Mini Theatre showcased The Showcase of the Arts, with performances by student artists taking place on Friday and Saturday afternoons.

This upcoming week will see another live performance at the Augusta Common, featuring G Clef and the Playlist. Tickets for this much-anticipated concert are priced at $10, while children aged 13 and under can attend for free. Event organizers remind attendees to leave their pets at home to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

In addition to music events, a free concert featuring Goin’ South, a Southern Rock tribute band, will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Sharon Jones Amphitheater. This free event provides another opportunity for families and music lovers to enjoy the local arts while creating lasting memories.

Thunder Over Evans is set to celebrate Armed Forces Day on Saturday at Evans Towne Center Park. With gates opening at 5:30 p.m., attendees can look forward to live music and a dazzling fireworks show, culminating with a drone light show scheduled for 9:15 p.m.

On the cultural front, the Morris Museum of Art offers free admission every Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., encouraging residents and visitors to explore its extensive collection. Additionally, a classic film screening of Steel Magnolias is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Miller Theater, available for free with a ticket reservation required.

This weekend’s events also include a seminar on hydrangeas at Cold Creek Nurseries on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and various community workshops planned for the upcoming weeks. Notable offerings include a public speaking class for children and blacksmithing classes, ensuring there is something for everyone in Augusta.

With such a vibrant lineup of events, Augusta’s commitment to fostering community spirit and engagement remains evident. As the summer progresses, many more activities and performances are set to take place, promising an exciting season for all residents.
