Augusta women’s basketball has distinguished itself by placing three student-athletes on the Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction. The honorees include Tyasia Freeman, Brianna Meekins, and Nyaneit Puok, who have excelled academically while contributing significantly to the team’s success. This season marks a milestone with the Jaguars achieving two consecutive 21-win seasons, showcasing their competitiveness in collegiate basketball. The program’s commitment to fostering well-rounded student-athletes is underlined by this dual recognition of athletic and academic achievements.
Augusta women’s basketball has achieved a notable feat, placing three student-athletes on the 2024-25 Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction. The recognition, presented by Barnes & Noble College, highlights individuals who excel both on the court and in the classroom.
The student-athletes honored are graduate student Tyasia Freeman from Waynesboro, Georgia, pursuing a Master of Kinesiology with an impressive 3.83 GPA; senior Brianna Meekins from Bridgeport, Connecticut, majoring in Health Services with a 3.54 GPA; and senior Nyaneit Puok from Des Moines, Iowa, who is majoring in Kinesiology with a 3.58 GPA. Each of these athletes played crucial roles for the Jaguars during the 2024-25 season, contributing to the team’s success.
During this season, the Augusta Jaguars achieved their second consecutive 21-win season, a milestone that had not been reached since 1993. Their performance enabled the team to maintain a position within the NCAA national top 25 rankings, showcasing their competitive edge in collegiate basketball. Additionally, Augusta solidified its reputation as one of Division II basketball’s premier defensive teams, ranking fifth nationally in three-point field goal percentage and leading the Peach Belt Conference in scoring defense. The Jaguars also ranked second in the conference for steals per game, underlining their rigorous defensive strategy.
To qualify for the Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction, student-athletes are required to compete in at least half of their team’s contests as either a starter or a significant contributor. Furthermore, they must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and have completed at least one academic year at their current institution while possessing sophomore athletic eligibility. This initiative celebrates the dual achievements that integrate excellence in academics and athletics, overseen by the league’s sports information directors.
