Augusta, Georgia – Two individuals, Jessamyne Brown, 25, and Quortez Campbell, 26, have been arrested and face multiple charges, including aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a crime, following a shooting incident at the Budget Inn and Suites. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Brown and Campbell on Tuesday, one day after the incident took place at the hotel located at 954 5th Street in Augusta.

On Monday evening, gunfire erupted at the Budget Inn, and nearby deputies discovered two vehicles—a 2014 Chevrolet Impala and a 2017 Ford Explorer—parked at the hotel with multiple bullet holes. Neither of the vehicle owners was present at the time of the shooting. A witness reported hearing at least eight gunshots around 8:30 p.m. during the incident.

The witness also mentioned a woman named “Stephanie,” who had been associated with the hotel and was allegedly engaging in prostitution activities. It was stated that this woman had recently robbed an elderly man, who then allegedly returned to the hotel and began shooting.

Compounding the situation, the hotel was found to have no operational surveillance cameras in the area where the shooting occurred, which has raised concerns about safety and security.

Further details from a security guard at a nearby business, Union Agener, indicated that a white Nissan Altima had been parked in their lot. The guard observed interactions between a woman and the Altima’s driver, who reportedly shouted, “Where they at?” before directing gunfire toward the hotel. During the exchange, someone from the hotel also fired a shot at the Altima.

In a separate incident, 34-year-old Brandon Johnson was fatally shot at his residence on Madrid Drive, Augusta. He was pronounced dead after being shot multiple times. Mark Johnson, 30, has been arrested in connection to this shooting. Witnesses reported that an argument occurred shortly before Brandon Johnson was shot, which took place on Sunday morning. Law enforcement officers found Mark Johnson in the backyard of the residence right after the shooting incident.

In a related series of violent events in Augusta, two deputies from Columbia County were gravely injured during a traffic stop involving James Blake Montgomery, who allegedly opened fire while being arrested. Deputy Brandon Sikes was killed immediately at the scene, while Deputy Gavin White sustained serious injuries. Following a tense standoff with police, Montgomery was found dead inside his motor home, with several weapons and pipe bombs discovered at the location. Reports reveal that he initially cooperated with law enforcement during the traffic stop but subsequently turned violent.

Sheriff Clay Whittle revealed troubling details about Montgomery’s background, indicating issues related to past domestic violence incidents and illegal drug activities. As investigations continue, autopsies for both Brandon Johnson and Deputy Brandon Sikes have been scheduled, as law enforcement seeks to piece together the events surrounding these violent incidents in Augusta.

The series of shootings and the quick actions taken by law enforcement underline growing concerns over public safety in the area, prompting officials to renew discussions on crime prevention and community safety measures.
