Augusta University men’s tennis team has placed three student-athletes on the Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction. Enzo Garutti, Arthur Valette, and David Perret have all demonstrated exceptional academic performance alongside their athletic commitments. With a record departmental GPA of 3.35, the team exemplifies excellence in both sports and academics. Augusta, Georgia – Augusta University men’s tennis has achieved an impressive milestone by placing three student-athletes on the 2024-25 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Team of Academic Distinction. This prestigious recognition, presented by Barnes & Noble College, underscores the commitment of these athletes to both their academic and athletic pursuits.
The honored players include Enzo Garutti, a junior from São José do Rio Preto, Brazil, who boasts a 3.80 GPA in Business Administration; Arthur Valette, a junior from Lyon, France, with a cumulative GPA of 3.94 in the same major; and David Perret, a sophomore from London, England, who has maintained a GPA of 3.90 also in Business Administration.
To qualify for the PBC Team of Academic Distinction, student-athletes must adhere to specific eligibility criteria. The requirements include competing in at least half of the team’s contests as a starter or significant contributor, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and having completed at least one academic year at their current institution while holding sophomore athletic eligibility.
Augusta University Athletics has showcased its academic excellence with a record-breaking departmental GPA of 3.35 for the Spring 2025 semester, marking its highest achievement to date. All NCAA sports programs at Augusta have met the benchmark of a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, with 79% of student-athletes earning this distinction. Additionally, 41 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the same semester, and a total of 199 student-athletes maintained GPAs of above 3.0, with 117 students earning GPAs of 3.5 or higher.
This achievement is particularly significant as it marks the 18th consecutive semester where Augusta University Athletics has reached or surpassed a 3.0 GPA average.
The Augusta University men’s tennis team is gearing up for the 2025 spring season, having announced a schedule that features a mix of non-conference and Peach Belt Conference matchups. The Jaguars completed the previous season ranked No. 37 in the nation, signaling a competitive spirit and a readiness for the upcoming challenges.
The season opens on February 2, 2025, with a match against Benedict College. Throughout February and March, the team will face various opponents, including Coker University and Lynn University. The regular season will culminate with matches leading into the PBC Championships, which commence on April 25, 2025.
In their latest outing, Augusta men’s tennis secured a 5-2 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne on March 5, 2025, improving their season record to 9-3. The team performed well in doubles, winning the first two matches, although they lost the third. In singles play, Garutti triumphed at No. 1, while Perret, along with teammates Pinto and Sakiyama, also secured wins in their respective positions.
