The Augusta University women’s tennis team has celebrated significant academic achievements with five student-athletes being named to the Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction. These honors reflect the balance of athletic excellence and strong academic performance among players, who have maintained a GPA of 3.50 or higher. As they prepare for the upcoming spring tennis season, the team showcases its commitment to both academics and competition.
Augusta, Georgia – The Augusta University women’s tennis team has achieved notable academic success, with five student-athletes named to the 2024-25 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Team of Academic Distinction. This prestigious recognition highlights the balance of athletic performance and academic excellence within the team.
The honored players include sophomores Luciana Bejarano, Julieta Palma, Giovanna Patrocinio, Camila Taborga, and junior Andrea Gonzalez. These student-athletes excelled academically while also contributing significantly to their team on the court.
The award, presented by Barnes & Noble College, recognizes student-athletes who not only perform well academically but also demonstrate valuable contributions during competitions. To qualify for the PBC Team of Academic Distinction, athletes must have competed in at least half of their team’s contests, have sophomore athletic eligibility, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.
Each of the honored athletes has demonstrated impressive academic standing along with their athletic commitments. Luciana Bejarano is from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and majors in Business Administration, boasting an impressive GPA of 3.90. Andrea Gonzalez, hailing from Saltillo, Mexico, shares the same major with a marginally higher GPA of 3.92. Similarly, sophomore Julieta Palma maintains a GPA of 3.90 while also pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
Giovanna Patrocinio is another standout, coming from São Paulo, Brazil, with a GPA of 3.50 in Kinesiology. Lastly, Camila Taborga from La Paz, Bolivia, holds a GPA of 3.61, also majoring in Kinesiology. Their combined achievements underscore the academic rigor and dedication displayed by the Augusta University women’s tennis team.
As the team celebrates this academic milestone, they also prepare for the upcoming 2025 spring tennis season, which kicks off on February 2, 2025, against Benedict in Columbia, South Carolina. Following their opening match, the Jaguars will host Erskine and Francis Marion on February 4 and February 10, respectively. The team has organized a series of matches throughout February and March, culminating in the Peach Belt Conference Championships starting on April 25, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia.
In their previous match against Montevallo on March 27, 2025, Augusta University achieved a thrilling victory with a close score of 4-3. This win improved the team’s overall record to 11-5, showcasing both their competitive spirit and skill on the court. In the doubles segment of the match against Montevallo, the Jaguars secured one victory out of three matches. Notably, the duo of Priscilla Landi and Julieta Palma clinched their match at No. 2 with a score of 7-5.
The singles victories came from players Andrea Gonzalez, Priscilla Landi, Camila Taborga, and Giovanna Patrocinio, showcasing a well-rounded performance by the team. The combination of academic achievements and athletic prowess reflects the team’s dedication to excellence both in studies and sports.
