Augusta, Georgia is currently experiencing cloudy weather with a chance of rain due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. While recent weather patterns have provided some relief, haze is affecting air quality in the region. Residents are urged to stay informed of local forecasts. The upcoming Masters Tournament is also on the horizon, with varied weather expected throughout the weekend.
Augusta is currently experiencing cloudy weather with a slight chance of rain, as smoke from Canadian wildfires blankets the area. On June 5, 2025, the temperatures are forecasted to reach a high of 82°F with light winds from the WNW at 5 to 10 mph. The low temperature for the day is expected to be around 68°F.
The recent weather patterns have provided a brief respite to Georgia residents, who have dealt with weeks of rainfall. However, a haze is now visible over the region due to smoke from raging wildfires more than 2,000 miles away in Canada. According to the National Weather Service in Atlanta, smoke and haze are affecting multiple areas, including LaGrange, Macon, and Augusta.
Meteorologists have reported that the smoke is anticipated to linger but is not expected to significantly impact air quality. According to Georgia’s Ambient Air Monitoring Program, moderate air quality was recorded across most regions, although areas like Albany and parts of Savannah reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 74.
Wildfires in Canada have resulted in over 17,000 residents from Saskatchewan and Manitoba being evacuated. The situation on the ground is critical, with more than 860,000 acres having burned due to active fires, prompting a state of emergency in these provinces. The military has been deployed to assist with evacuations. Ontario is also grappling with the aftermath of wildfires, with around 130,000 acres burned.
As the condition of the wildfires is expected to worsen, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe has noted that relief will likely only come with significant rainfall. FireSmoke Canada reported smoke from these wildfires is moving toward the Midwest and the Carolinas, escalating concerns in those areas as well.
Despite the haze, the Georgia Forestry reported three controlled wildfires within the state, measuring 8 acres in Thomasville, 0.25 acres in Valdosta, and 1.43 acres in Lake Park. These wildfires are isolated and part of the state’s ongoing management efforts.
In addition to these weather considerations, Augusta is preparing for the upcoming Masters Tournament. The Augusta National Golf Club, which experienced flooding during Hurricane Helene in September—resulting in estimated residential losses of $282 million—is managing the course conditions effectively. Forecasters predict varying weather impacts over the tournament weekend, with a chance of rain on Friday, April 11, when temperatures may reach a high of 72°F.
As wildfires in Canada continue to create hazardous conditions, Georgia residents are advised to stay updated with local weather forecasts and follow safety guidelines regarding air quality and wildfire smoke.
