Augusta, GA – Augusta University’s softball team has made a significant mark in both academic excellence and community service, as evidenced by recent honors and ongoing renovations to their facilities. Five student-athletes from the team have been named to the 2024-25 Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction.

The honored student-athletes include juniors Audrey Johnson, Chesney Miles, Kelsea Moody, Ansley Gibson, and sophomore Madalyn Spinks. Johnson, hailing from Marietta, GA, is majoring in Kinesiology and holds a GPA of 3.52. Miles, a Criminal Justice major from Fleming Island, FL, has achieved a GPA of 3.55. Gibson, also pursuing Kinesiology, maintains a GPA of 3.72, while Spinks, from Social Circle, GA, continues her studies in Kinesiology with a GPA of 3.64.

To be chosen for the Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction, student-athletes must have participated in at least half of their team’s competitions, achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and completed a minimum of one academic year at Augusta University. This recognition reinforces the commitment of the Augusta University softball athletes towards both their academics and athletic responsibilities.

In addition to their academic achievements, Augusta University Athletics has also excelled in community service, ranking among the top 20 NCAA Division II programs in the 2024-25 NCAA Helper Helper Service Challenge. Student-athletes contributed a total of 2,068 validated hours of community service since August 1, 2024, supporting 21 local organizations. The softball program particularly distinguished itself by ranking in the top five nationally for community service hours among all Division II softball teams, with the team contributing 612 hours to various causes.

The overall participation rate for Augusta Jaguars in community service was 77%, with 238 out of 310 student-athletes engaging in service opportunities. Other teams that contributed significant hours included Baseball with 249 hours, Volleyball with 242 hours, Women’s Basketball with 219 hours, and Men’s Basketball with 185 hours.

Furthermore, the Augusta University softball team has been awarded the 2025 Peach Belt Conference Softball Team Sportsmanship Award. This award is presented to the team that exemplifies integrity, character, and class, as determined by votes from other teams within the sport. The recognition highlights the sportsmanship exemplified by the team and their conduct during the season.

Looking ahead, plans for renovations to the Augusta University softball field are set to commence soon, which include the addition of 225 chairback seats and a new press box. These enhancements aim to improve the overall experience for fans and athletes, following similar improvements made to the baseball stadium at the university. Moreover, new batting cages will be incorporated into the facility to replace those damaged during Hurricane Helene.

The completion of these renovations is expected before the start of the 2026 season, providing an upgraded environment for both players and supporters of Augusta University softball. With a strong focus on academics, community service, and facility enhancements, the program is poised to continue its tradition of excellence on and off the field.
