Augusta, GA – Alan Phillip Kortick, a beloved member of the Augusta community, passed away at the age of 63 on June 6, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. His legacy and contributions to the community will be fondly remembered by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Kortick is survived by his father, Maurice Kortick; his two sons, Harry and Joseph Kortick, along with daughter-in-law Alexis Kortick; his sister, Sid Stein, and brother-in-law Kim Stein; two nieces, Gabriella Stein and Kallie Brown; as well as his cherished dog, Beau, and numerous close friends. His mother, Simone Simowitz Kortick, preceded him in death, along with his grandparents, Harry and Rose Simowitz, and Joseph and Katherine Kortick.

Life and Community Involvement

Born in Atlanta, GA, Kortick moved to Augusta as an infant and spent his entire life in the area. He was well-known as the owner of the Downtown Pawn Shop located on Broad Street, becoming a familiar face for many in the community. Aside from his business, he was an active member of Adas Yeshurun Synagogue and participated in a weekly Thursday night dinner group, demonstrating his commitment to building relationships and connections within the community.

Passions and Interests

Alan Kortick was a man of many interests. He enjoyed listening to live music, teaching workout classes, and was fond of sports, poker, and WWE. However, his greatest passion was fatherhood; he embraced the joy of raising his twin boys and took pride in nurturing their growth and happiness. His friends and family described him as kind and gentle, always prioritizing the needs of others and making a positive impact on those around him.

Funeral Services

A funeral service was held on June 9, 2025, at Magnolia Cemetery, with Rabbi David Sirull officiating. The service was attended by numerous family members and friends who gathered to pay their respects. Pallbearers included an array of family and friends, notably Maurice Kortick, Harry Kortick, Joseph Kortick, Sid Stein, Fred Daitch, Mark Weinberger, Harris Fogel, Matt Butler, and Mark Ghingold, each representing vital connections in Kortick’s life.

Memorial Contributions

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The American Cancer Society, Canine Pawsibilities in Augusta, GA, or to a charity of one’s choice. This reflects Alan’s generous spirit and his deep compassion for both people and animals.
