North Augusta, S.C. – Authorities are actively searching for Susan Rhodes, a woman who went missing following a vehicle crash on Gregory Lake Road near the entrance to the Gregory Landing subdivision on Tuesday. The incident occurred when one of the vehicles involved left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch.

Following the collision, Rhodes exited her vehicle and wandered into the nearby woods. Witnesses reported that she was wearing a bright red shirt and appeared disoriented, which raises concerns that she may be experiencing a medical issue.

Law enforcement agencies involved in the search operations include the North Augusta Public Safety, Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, and Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. The search commenced around 4:30 PM on Wednesday and continued into the evening, concluding around 9:15 PM. Search efforts were resumed Thursday morning at 7:30 AM and have been enhanced with the use of foot searches, K-9 units, and drones.

Authorities confirmed that Rhodes was last seen in the yard of a residence located at 2224 Gregory Lake Road. According to reports, she is described as approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and was last seen wearing tan pants, black shoes, and an arm sling.

Rhodes’ family members have not been in contact with her since the accident, prompting a heightened sense of urgency in the search efforts. In addition to ground searches, authorities are monitoring Rhodes’ phone for pings that may help in locating her. A helicopter from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is also participating in the search operations.

The area where Rhodes went missing is facing challenges due to recent weather conditions, including a nearby creek that has risen to waist-deep levels. These complications necessitate caution as multiple agencies continue search operations on foot throughout the area.

Citizens in the region have been advised to report any sighting or information about Susan Rhodes by contacting dispatch at (803) 441-4200. With ongoing searches and community assistance, authorities remain hopeful for Rhodes’ safe return.

The incident has raised concerns within the community, highlighting the potential dangers associated with medical emergencies that could arise in unexpected situations. As the search continues, the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies underscore the commitment to ensuring the safety of all individuals in the area.

This ongoing situation remains fluid, and updates on Rhodes’ condition or any developments in the search are expected as further information becomes available. Family members, friends, and community members have joined law enforcement’s call for assistance, standing together in hopes of finding Rhodes swiftly and safely.
