Augusta University Athletics has announced the creation of men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams, beginning competition in the upcoming academic year. Augusta – Augusta University Athletics has officially announced plans to launch men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams, with competition set to commence in the 2025-26 academic year. The head coach of cross country and track and field, Jacob Burgamy, will lead the newly established indoor programs in conjunction with his existing responsibilities. Since being appointed as head coach in March 2023, Burgamy has already made a notable impact, guiding the men’s cross country team to three consecutive Peach Belt Conference titles and achieving national rankings annually. Under his leadership, Augusta’s athletic teams have seen remarkable individual successes as well.
In fall 2024, the program celebrated its first All-American honor when Jordan Robertson finished among the top contenders at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, making history as Augusta’s premier cross country All-American. Following that, the spring of 2025 brought in further accolades when Avery Jaynes became the university’s first NCAA Track & Field All-American with a podium finish in the 10,000m event at the national meet held in Pueblo, Colorado.
Director of Athletics Ryan Erlacher has emphasized the importance of adding indoor track and field as part of their expanding sports sponsorship lineup. With a robust framework already established, the university is positioned to foster a competitive environment for its athletes under Burgamy’s guidance.
