Augusta – Tiger Woods and his design firm, TGR Design, are set to lead a significant renovation project at The Patch located in Augusta, which will feature a new nine-hole short course named The Loop at The Patch. The renovation comes as a collaborative effort involving Augusta National Golf Club and Augusta Technical College, and it aims to enhance the facilities available to local communities.
This initiative was officially announced in April 2025 during the prestigious Masters Tournament, marking a pivotal moment in the redevelopment of Augusta Municipal Golf Course. The Loop is designed to pay homage to the caddies who have historically gathered in the area and will bring a fresh experience to golfers of all levels.
Tiger Woods recently visited Augusta National Golf Club, alongside Chairman Fred Ridley, to inspect potential sites for the renovation. While Woods continues to recover from Achilles tendon surgery, which caused him to miss this year’s Masters, his commitment to this project underscores his ongoing involvement in the sport and community development.
The Loop and the renovated Patch course are projected to open in time for the 2026 Masters Tournament, offering a unique golfing experience that promotes accessibility. The project not only focuses on golf but also integrates educational initiatives through the establishment of the TGR Learning Lab in Augusta.
The TGR Learning Lab, which will occupy the site of the old Lamar Elementary School, is designed to serve students from under-resourced communities by providing inspiring learning environments and technological access. As the fourth lab in the TGR network, it aims to focus on STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and is expected to commence operations by 2028. The curriculum will be centered on career and college readiness, as well as health and wellness, preparing students for future opportunities.
The renovation project is also anticipated to create new opportunities for youth by blending golf with mentorship and educational programs. With a substantial contribution from Augusta National Golf Club towards the development of the TGR Learning Lab, the project aligns with broader goals of community support and youth engagement.
Moreover, the integration of Augusta Technical College’s golf management programs at The Patch aims to enhance job prospects for local individuals interested in pursuing careers within the golf industry. This collaboration will foster an environment where education meets practical application, benefiting the local community.
