McCormick, SCRonnie (Ron) Gene Taylor, a retired Lt. Colonel of the United States Air Force, passed away on June 22, 2025, at the age of 86. He succumbed to illness at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC, leaving behind a legacy of military service and community involvement.

Ron was a long-time resident of the Savannah Lakes Community in McCormick. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bobbie Opal Clark Taylor, two sons, Steven Bradley Taylor and Mark Alan Taylor, and one daughter, Ronee Jean Taylor Jordan. Additionally, he leaves behind eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Ron was preceded in death by a grandchild, Lauren Stewart, and a great-grandchild, Eris Wilson.

Born on December 4, 1938, in Oklahoma City, OK, Ron was the son of Orville Leon and Leota Mae Tresner Taylor. He graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1957 before attending the University of Oklahoma. Subsequently, he entered the United States Air Force Academy, where he completed a rigorous four-year training program, graduating in 1962.

Ron served honorably in the United States Air Force, where he attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. He participated in four six-month tours of duty during the Vietnam War, flying 119 B52 bombing missions throughout his military career. He was awarded numerous distinguished medals and honors for his service, reflecting his commitment and dedication to his country.

After retiring from the Air Force, Ron transitioned to a career outside of military service. He spent five years working with the Army Times Publishing Company and later taught for one year each at George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College.

Ron was an active member of the community and his faith. He was involved with the McCormick United Methodist Church, participating in the United Methodist Men’s group and the Emmaus Community. He also led the ChristCare Small Group within his church community. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans, GA.

In addition to his service to the church, Ron volunteered at the McCormick Humane Society Shelter, showcasing his love for animals and commitment to community service. His contributions extended beyond his professional career, enriching the lives of many in his community.

Funeral services for Ron will be held at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date, paying tribute to his service in the United States Air Force. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Air Force Aid Society or Tunnels to Towers in honor of Ron’s legacy.
