Families enjoying Fourth of July celebration in Augusta

News Summary

Downtown Augusta is set for a family-friendly Fourth of July celebration at Augusta Common, featuring food, live music, and fireworks. City officials are working to ensure safety with over 65 deputies on-site as they anticipate large crowds joining the festivities. Attendees should note parking limitations and safety protocols for children. The event follows other local celebrations, promising a festive atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

Augusta is preparing for an exciting and safe Fourth of July celebration, scheduled to take place at Augusta Common on July 4th, starting at 5 p.m. The festivities will include a variety of activities such as food vendors, live music, and family-friendly events, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display set to launch at 9:30 p.m. City officials are anticipating several thousand attendees flocking to downtown Augusta to celebrate Independence Day.

Weather forecasts suggest a hot day with sunshine and a few clouds, reaching a high of nearly 95°F. Light winds are expected from the east-northeast at 10 to 15 mph, with a chance of an early stray shower or thunderstorm. As night falls, temperatures will dip to around 73°F, and winds will decrease to a calmer 5 to 10 mph.

To ensure a safe environment, more than 65 deputies will be deployed to manage the event. Their presence will extend from Fifth Street to 13th Street, including undercover units, traffic management teams, and local support personnel from both Georgia and South Carolina. Law enforcement will be vigilant about public safety, particularly concerning alcohol regulations; while a beer tent will be available, the consumption of outside alcohol and personal fireworks is prohibited.

Attendees are advised that parking will be limited and to make use of public parking decks, as private lots may result in towing if vehicles are parked without permission. Safety protocols are also established for children; should a child become separated from their guardian, they can be taken to Room 102 of the Riverwalk Special Events Building for assistance.

As festivities conclude around 10 p.m., law enforcement will assist with traffic flow to ensure a smooth departure for attendees. Residents are encouraged to keep informed with real-time updates from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office via their Facebook page, which will provide safety announcements and traffic information.

This event follows earlier celebrations in the area, including Fort Gordon’s Independence Day celebration held the night before, which featured food, live music, and activities honoring veterans. The Augusta GreenJackets also hosted a “Red, White & BOOM!” fireworks extravaganza on July 3rd, complete with game-worn patriotic jersey auctions to benefit local charities.

As the city gears up for a night of fun and community spirit, officials remain committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all who attend. With proper planning and adherence to safety measures, Augusta’s Fourth of July celebrations promise to be a memorable occasion for families and visitors alike.
