North Augusta – Lynn Thompson, the founder of North Augusta’s Living History Park, passed away on July 4, 2025, at the age of 80. Thompson had been battling colon cancer since February 2025 and chose to enter hospice and palliative care after her treatment did not yield positive results.

Thompson, born on December 9, 1944, in Daytona Beach, Florida, was a passionate advocate for historic preservation and community involvement. As president of the Olde Towne Preservation Association, the fundraising nonprofit for Living History Park, she played a critical role in the park’s operations until her death. Under her leadership, the park, which was founded in 1991, became dedicated to preserving the region’s Revolutionary War history, featuring a replica 18th-century village spread across more than seven acres.

Thompson’s impact on the community extended beyond the park. She was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Augusta, where she served as the wedding coordinator. In recognition of her contributions, she was named Citizen of the Year by the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce in 2011. Additionally, she was an advocate for adopted children and displayed her artistic flair as a talented interior decorator.

In her commitment to historic preservation, Thompson restored the B.C. Wall House, also known as Sesame Lodge, which dates back to 1902. This restoration project highlighted her dedication to maintaining the region’s historical integrity. Moreover, Living History Park has welcomed visitors from all over the world for historical reenactments held twice a year, showcasing the region’s heritage and attracting numerous volunteers.

Despite her success, the park faced challenges during Thompson’s tenure. It sustained extensive damage from Hurricane Helene, which negatively impacted its operations and revenues. Nevertheless, Thompson remained focused on her mission to preserve the park and educate the community about its historical importance.

A memorial service for Thompson is planned to be held at Living History Park once it reopens, providing a space for the community to honor her legacy and the contributions she made throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Olde Towne Preservation Association, supporting the ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the Living History Park.

Thompson leaves behind a rich legacy of community service and dedication to historical preservation. Her tireless work at Living History Park and the community’s many organizations will be remembered as a testament to her passion for enhancing the lives of those around her. As the community reflects on her life, they will carry forward her vision of preserving history and fostering a sense of connection among its members.
