Law enforcement conducting a drug operation in Augusta.
In a significant operation, Augusta police arrested seven individuals following a search at a residence on Brookshire Drive. Authorities seized illegal drugs, firearms, and a stolen motorcycle. One suspect also faces additional charges related to a stolen necklace belonging to a robbery victim, adding a somber element to the case. The investigation continues with further potential charges anticipated as law enforcement aims to address crime in the community collaboratively.
Seven individuals have been arrested and charged following a police search at a residence on the 2600 block of Brookshire Drive in Augusta. The search was carried out by local authorities around 5:59 p.m. on a Tuesday, resulting in the confiscation of various illegal items, including approximately 22 grams of methamphetamine, 25 grams of marijuana, three handguns, and a stolen Can-Am Spyder motorcycle.
The individuals taken into custody include Berten Blockett, Samaj Walton, Xavier Hatcher, Jalen Willett, Marquise Walker, Amiya Graham, and Kevontae Jenkins. During the investigation, police discovered that Marquise Walker was wearing a necklace that has been identified by the father of Xavier Wimberly, a victim of robbery who tragically died in a hit-and-run incident in May.
Walker now faces an additional charge of Felony Theft by Taking for wearing the necklace, which authorities believe was stolen from Wimberly. Walker claimed he found the necklace near Deans Bridge Road, an area close to the scene of Wimberly’s accident. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that further charges against the arrested individuals may follow as the investigation continues.
The recovery of Wimberly’s necklace has led to communication with his family, who will be contacted for a positive identification. Authorities hope that this development may bring some closure to an ongoing case that has affected the community deeply.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office on this case. Together, they aim to tackle crime more effectively, showcasing the significance of inter-agency cooperation in promoting public safety. Sheriff Eugene Brantley emphasized that such collaborations are critical in the fight against crime and contribute to a safer community overall.
The tragic background surrounding the stolen necklace adds another layer to this police operation. Xavier Wimberly was a victim of robbery before his tragic death in a hit-and-run incident several months ago. His family is still grieving, and the recovery of his belongings may offer some consolation amid their loss.
This operation in Augusta reflects ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to curb drug-related crime and recover stolen property throughout the community. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to addressing these issues through continued investigations and community engagement.
The situation continues to develop, with law enforcement likely to provide further updates as the investigation unfolds.
