Augusta – A man has been charged with felony theft after allegedly stealing a necklace from Xavion Wimberly, a 23-year-old victim of a hit-and-run incident that occurred on May 25. The suspect, Marquise Walker, faces serious charges as investigations reveal he took the necklace while Wimberly lay dying on a sidewalk after being struck by a vehicle.
The incident took place near Suz Lounge, where Wimberly was left incapacitated and in urgent need of assistance. Witnesses to the scene reported the theft shortly after the hit-and-run accident. Wimberly’s father has since recognized the necklace as belonging to his son. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the recovered necklace matched the property description provided in the case documentation.
Walker initially claimed he located the necklace near the site of the incident; however, law enforcement determined sufficient evidence existed to pursue charges against him for theft. He was arrested on July 8, during a police operation executed at a residence on the 2600 block of Brookshire Drive in Augusta.
Alongside Walker’s arrest, authorities seized approximately 22 grams of methamphetamine, 25 grams of marijuana, and three handguns. Additionally, a stolen Can-Am Spider motorcycle was recovered during the operation. Walker was one of seven individuals apprehended as part of this search warrant execution.
This investigation was a joint effort between the Richmond County and Burke County Sheriff’s Offices, aiming to combat various criminal activities within the community. Walker now faces multiple charges related to not only the theft of the necklace but also the narcotics and firearms found during the raid.
Following the shocking nature of this case, a reward of $7,500 remains available for anyone providing information that could lead to further arrests connected to the robbery of Xavion Wimberly. The community’s response has been one of outrage, emphasizing the urgent need for justice in the wake of such a heartless crime committed against a vulnerable individual in his final moments.
The hit-and-run incident, paired with the subsequent theft, has brought significant media attention and public concern in the Augusta community. Many residents express a desire for accountability in cases involving violent crimes, particularly those that involve vulnerable victims.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in bringing other suspects to justice. The community’s involvement can play a pivotal role in achieving closure for the victim’s family and reinforcing safety measures throughout the area.
