A sad representation of a family vacation at a lake

News Summary

In a shocking turn of events, a Montreal father has been charged with the murder of his 9-year-old daughter during a family vacation in New York. Luciano Frattolin faces serious accusations after the body of Melina Frattolin was found in a pond following her disappearance. The investigation revealed inconsistencies in his story, indicating a possible motive behind the tragic incident. As the community mourns the loss of young Melina, calls for justice grow louder, with authorities pursuing the case vigorously.

Heartbreaking Case: Canadian Father Charged with Murdering Daughter During Vacation

What was supposed to be a joyful family vacation has turned into a tragic nightmare. Luciano Frattolin, a 45-year-old father from Montreal, is now facing serious charges, including second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse. This shocking case revolves around the death of his 9-year-old daughter, Melina Frattolin.

The Disappearance

Melina was reported missing on July 19, shortly before her body was found in a shallow pond in Ticonderoga, New York, just a day later on July 20. The family had entered the United States on July 11 for what was intended to be a cheerful getaway, with plans to return home to Canada by July 20.

Melina lived primarily with her mother in Montreal, and her parents had been estranged since 2019. On the evening of her disappearance, video footage captured both her and Luciano in Saratoga Springs, New York, at around 5:30 PM. Not long after, Melina made a phone call to her mother around 6:30 PM, saying that they were on their way back to Canada.

A Hair-Raising Turn

Tragically, authorities believe that the tragedy struck shortly after that phone call. Luciano reportedly told police that he had parked his vehicle near Lake George to relieve himself, only to return and find Melina missing. Alarm bells began ringing as his story raised significant doubts.

Initially, an Amber Alert was activated in the search for Melina after Luciano reported her missing. But shortly after the alert was issued, inconsistencies in his account began surfacing. Investigators concluded that there had likely been no abduction. Instead, authorities believe that Luciano murdered Melina after she spoke with her mother and before he made reports of her disappearance.

The Discovery

On July 20, as the investigation deepened, police discovered Melina’s body concealed in a wooded area, submerged under a log. The exact cause of her death remains undetermined as autopsy results are still pending.

To make matters worse, evidence emerged suggesting that Luciano had fabricated details about an abduction. He even mentioned two unknown men and a white van, which further complicated the narrative he presented to investigators.

The Court Proceedings

Frattolin’s case has now fallen under the jurisdiction of the New York State Police, succeeding investigations led by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. He made his court appearance on July 21, pleading not guilty, and is scheduled for a felony hearing on July 25. Interestingly, records show that Luciano does not have any previous criminal history or reports of domestic violence.

Community Reactions

The heartbreaking news of Melina’s death has touched many. A police captain involved with the case expressed condolences to her family during a press conference, emphasizing just how devastating and tragic this situation is. Melina was described as the “light of Luciano’s life,” a sentiment that resonated in Luciano’s online presence, including a coffee company he founded.

Continuing Investigation

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working hard to establish a motive behind the alleged killing. The sadness surrounding Melina’s death is palpable, with several state officials, including the governor, expressing their sorrow and commitment to ensuring that justice is served.

This tragic case has left the community reeling, as they try to come to terms with the loss of a young girl who deserved so much more. Melina’s story is one that will not be forgotten, and as the investigation continues, the hope is that answers will be found, and justice will prevail.
