Marietta, Georgia – The local community is mourning the loss of beloved educator and volunteer Pat Brigham, who passed away recently at the age of 85. Pat’s contributions to education and her unwavering commitment to her family and community have left an indelible mark on those who knew her.

Born on November 19, 1937, Pat was raised in Augusta, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Clinton David (C.D.) Hughes and Lavada Peavy Hughes, and grew up alongside her two younger sisters, Linda and Amanda, who remained her life-long friends. Following her graduation from Augusta’s Richmond Academy, Pat pursued studies in early childhood education at junior college and then at the University of Georgia.

In 1959, Pat married Charles Brigham, and together they raised two children: son David and daughter Laura. The family lived in several cities, including Atlanta, Louisville, and Jacksonville, before returning to the Atlanta area. Throughout her life, Pat was known as a loving wife and dedicated mother, forming strong bonds with her family that extended beyond ordinary relationships.

Pat’s commitment to education and community service was evident through her many volunteer efforts. She served as a docent at The Youth Museum in Cobb County for several years and taught Sunday School, positively influencing the lives of hundreds of children. Her passion for teaching extended to mission trips in her later years, where she traveled to Costa Rica to teach Vacation Bible School.

As an avid supporter of Georgia Tech athletics, Pat and Charles held season tickets for both football and basketball for over 20 years. They enjoyed spending their free time together playing golf and relaxing at their vacation home at Lake Oconee.

Pat was also an adoring grandmother, affectionately known as “Mamom” to her three grandchildren: Nathaniel Brigham, Sarah Sax (Chris), and Benjamin Brigham. She played an active role in their lives, engaging them with creative craft projects, games, and heartfelt storytelling, enriching their childhood experiences.

Pat is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles W. Brigham, of Marietta, GA, her son W. David Brigham (Deborah), two great-grandchildren named Skylar and Savannah Sax, as well as extended family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, and her daughter.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Maria, who provided dedicated care to Pat over the last two years. They also extend thanks to Vernita, Casey, Kim, and Trinity Hospice of Georgia for their compassionate support during Pat’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Trinity Hospice. A private burial will be held at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, GA, for the family. Additionally, a celebration of Pat’s life will be arranged in Marietta, with details to be announced soon.

As a cherished member of her community, Pat Brigham will be remembered for her kindness, generous spirit, and lasting impact on the lives of those she touched.
