Athens, Georgia –

Construction has officially begun on a significant redevelopment project for the Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) at the University of Georgia (UGA), backed by a substantial $67 million construction loan from CCI Real Estate. This collaboration with the Georgia Baptist Mission Board aims to transform the BCM facility into a modern ministry hub that will cater to the university’s diverse student population.

The ambitious project will result in a new, eight-story development that will include 243 one- and two-bedroom apartments, offering a total of 353 beds designed for student living. It aims to create a vibrant community space within the heart of Athens, enhancing the experience for both current and prospective students associated with BCM.

In addition to housing, the ground level of the new complex will feature 240 residential units, complemented by a variety of retail options that include a coffee house and a fitness center. This redevelopment is designed to foster community interactions among students, encouraging relationships and engagement.

Among the many amenities, the new facility will boast a 356-space parking deck, a rooftop amenity deck, student lounges, and designated office spaces. Notably, the development will also accommodate over 500 individuals for conferences and meetings, offering a flexible space for gatherings and events.

The project marks a pivotal shift for BCM, which has operated from its previous location since 1961. Completion of the redevelopment is slated for June 2027, with New South Construction appointed as the general contractor responsible for overseeing the construction phases.

As BCM serves over 31,000 students at UGA, this redevelopment reflects a dedication to improving collegiate ministry efforts on campus. CCI Real Estate perceives this venture not merely as a financial investment but as a long-term legacy that will positively impact students and their spiritual journeys.

Moreover, the Georgia Baptist Mission Board has expressed its eagerness regarding the project, recognizing the potential it holds for enhancing student evangelism and discipleship within the UGA community. The new BCM complex aims to create a mixed-use space that marries student living with a faith-based focus, promoting not just individual growth but also a sense of belonging among peers.

This redevelopment initiative is part of a larger vision, as CCI Real Estate plans to undertake similar BCM facility projects at other institutions, including Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern University. As communities across campuses continue to evolve, such developments promise to shape a more supportive and engaging environment for students while revitalizing the mission of collegiate ministries in the region.
