Jane, who passed away peacefully, is remembered for her cherished relationships and contributions to the community. Meanwhile, Edo Douglass, a respected local figure and veteran, left a legacy of dedication to education and business. Friends and family celebrated their impactful lives, highlighting their commitment to family and service to others.
Augusta, Georgia – The community came together to honor the lives of Jane Jennings Nord and Edwin Latimer Douglass, Jr. during memorial services held in their memory. Jane Nord passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, while Edo Douglass passed on July 25, 2025, both in Augusta. Family, friends, and members of the community gathered to celebrate their lives and contributions, providing a testament to the impact each had on those around them.
Jane Jennings Nord, at the age of 81, is remembered fondly by her family, including her two children, Janelle Ann Nord of Decatur, GA, and James Nord, Jr. (Wayne) of Augusta, GA. Preceded in death by her husband, James E. Nord (Jim), and her parents, John Leonard and Ola Mooney Jennings, Jane lived a life shaped by her cherished relationships. A private interment will be held for Jane at a later date.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Byllesby Center in Augusta or the Fine Arts Ministry at First United Methodist Church in Lakeland, FL. Further details and her full obituary can be accessed online.
Edwin Latimer Douglass, Jr., affectionately known as Edo, passed away at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Anne Lindgren Douglass, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Edo was born on May 25, 1934, in Augusta, GA, to Mildred Garrett Douglass and Edwin Latimer Douglass. He was the grandson of notable educator T. Harry Garrett, which reflected a legacy of community involvement and commitment to education.
Edo’s educational journey began at Richmond Academy and continued at Davidson College, where he became active in various extracurricular activities, including Beta Theta Pi, ROTC, and the men’s golf team. He received recognition for his contributions to the school, notably being awarded the Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 2005.
Following his education, Edo served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Seoul, South Korea, as personal aide-de-camp to General William Fitzsche. Upon returning from military service, he became a successful businessman and entrepreneur, establishing several businesses in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA), such as Augusta Hardwood Lumber Co., Augusta Truck Sales, and Bennett Gas Co. He notably served as president of Glynn Farms Inc. for over 50 years.
Edo’s leadership extended into numerous organizations, including the Southern Hardwood Lumber Association, Augusta Country Club, and the Georgia-Carolina Boy Scouts of America, where he earned the Silver Beaver Award. His commitment to education was also evident in his service on the boards of various local institutions including the Augusta Preparatory Day School and banks within the region.
A devoted member of the Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, Edo was a third-generation member and Elder, marking a significant part of his community contributions. He was actively involved in local clubs such as Augusta Assembly and the Heritage Club, as well as the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club. In addition to his wife, Edo is survived by his children, Anne D. King (Michael) and Edwin L. Douglass, III (Danny), along with five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Dr. Thomas Garrett Douglass.
The memorial service for Edo Douglass will take place on July 29, 2025, at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am, with a gathering of friends beginning at 10:00 am. Like Jane’s family, those wishing to honor Edo’s memory can also contribute to Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church or The Augusta Golf Team via the AU Birdie Club.
Both Jane Jennings Nord and Edwin Latimer Douglass, Jr. left behind impactful legacies that will be remembered fondly by their families and the community of Augusta. Their lives serve as reminders of the contributions individuals can make through dedication to family, community service, and professional excellence.
