Born on August 29, 1989, in Augusta, GA, David is survived by his parents, Mary and Sam Painter, as well as his siblings: Lindsey, Christena, Virginia, and George Painter, who are supported by their partners. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his grandmother, Jeanne Lindsey, and a large extended family of uncles, aunts, and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents: The Rev. Lucien Lindsey, Ken Painter, and Sandra Painter Walker.
David faced significant challenges from a young age, having been diagnosed with Coffin-Lowry Syndrome (CLS), a rare genetic condition. Despite these obstacles, he faced life with resilience, humor, and gratitude toward caregivers, ultimately using his experiences to inspire and help others. Throughout his life, David became known for his kindness, empathy, and ability to cultivate a sense of community.
David spent his early years within the Alleluia Community, where he made enduring friendships that enriched his life. He later moved to Sydney, Australia, in 2010, where he continued to forge meaningful connections, further expanding his social circle. In 2014, he played a pivotal role in establishing a CLS community that led to the creation of the biennial event, The CLS Family Gathering. This initiative significantly enhanced the lives of countless families affected by the condition.
Most recently, David resided in Austin, TX, where he was a cherished member of the local community while his mother pursued her studies at the Semiary of the Southwest. His vibrant spirit and passion for life were evident through his enthusiasm for music, as he loved to play, sing, and dance to the tunes of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and numerous Disney classics. A birthday celebration was never complete for David without cake and festivities, reflecting his joy for life.
David also had an adventurous side, admiring speed and taking part in various activities ranging from running to riding vehicles with engines. His faith was a significant part of his life, attending St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Augusta and various other churches throughout his journey.
To honor his memory, a burial service will be held on August 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church in Augusta, GA. Following this, a Celebration of Life Service is planned for September 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin, TX. Memorial gifts in David’s honor may be directed to the Coffin Lowry Syndrome Foundation through their official website.
