Augusta, Georgia – Dr. Judy Inez Orosz, a respected pediatrician and dedicated medical missionary, passed away on August 25, 2025, at the age of 80. Dr. Orosz left behind a legacy of compassion and commitment to children’s health and well-being.

Dr. Orosz was born on July 16, 1945, in Woodbury, Georgia, to Inez Brown Orosz and the late SGT Joseph Michael Orosz, who tragically lost his life during World War II just four months before her birth. Shortly after her birth, Dr. Orosz and her mother moved to Thomaston, Georgia, where she spent her childhood living with her grandparents, Charles and Estelle Brown, and her aunts, Della and Mary Brown. At the age of 13, she moved with her mother to Decatur, Georgia.

Her academic achievements began early, culminating in her honor graduate status from Decatur High School in 1963. Dr. Orosz attended the University of Georgia and became a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. She later graduated from Georgia State University in 1967 and was elected to the Beta Beta Beta Honor Biological Society for her exemplary performance in the field of biology. In 1971, she earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine.

Following her graduation, Dr. Orosz completed her internship at Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1972. She then underwent a Pediatric Residency at T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital, serving as Chief Resident. In August 1974, she opened her pediatric practice in Cartersville, Georgia, showcasing her dedication to pediatric healthcare.

In August 1979, Dr. Orosz transitioned to work as a staff physician at Gracewood State School and Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. She later joined the pediatric faculty at the Medical College of Georgia as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Assistant Pediatric Coordinator, further contributing to the education of future medical professionals.

In February 1986, her passion for service led her on a three-week mission trip to Mano River, Liberia, with the Georgia Baptists. This experience shifted her career focus, prompting her to resign from MCG and embark on a series of medical missions in Africa. From 1987 to 1988, Dr. Orosz served with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in Liberia and later at Eku Baptist Hospital in Nigeria.

Dr. Orosz continued her mission work by attending Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, in July 1989. In April 1991, she was appointed by Serving In Mission (SIM) to Egbe Hospital in Nigeria, where she trained house officers in pediatrics at Euangel Hospital in Jos until June 1996. Her exemplary service was marked by a deep commitment to improving the lives of children in underserved communities.

Upon her return to the United States, Dr. Orosz took on the role of caretaker for her mother and aunts. She subsequently worked at Fort Gordon, where she retired from the Connelly Health Clinic in November 2012 after years of service.

Dr. Orosz is survived by 12 maternal cousins, 6 paternal cousins, and her loyal companion, Bo. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 AM on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Storey Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Augusta. Rev. Dr. Molly T. Marshall and Dr. Will Dyer will officiate the service. A special acknowledgment was made to her caregiver, Ciera Drayton, as well as Nurse Taylor and Case Manager Heather from Trinity Hospice, who provided care in her final days.
