The Augusta team also showcased their strength by securing third place in the event, outperforming other Division II teams. With previous championship victories and strong performances, the team is on track for another successful season.

Augusta, GA – Augusta senior Nasrudin Mohamed has earned the title of Peach Belt Conference Runner of the Week following his standout performance at the Queens City Invitational. Mohamed finished eighth overall in the 8K race with a time of 25:08.4, marking the fastest time recorded in the Peach Belt Conference this season.

In addition to Mohamed’s individual success, the Augusta men’s cross country team demonstrated notable strength by placing third overall at the Queens City Invitational. The Jaguars accumulated 121 points in the team standings, finishing ahead of several other Division II competitors. Notably, Augusta was the fastest Division II program present at the event.

The team achieved an average time of 25:36 across the challenging 8K course. One of the highlights of the event was the impressive consistency among the team’s scoring five runners, who maintained a spread of only one minute between their finishing times. Following Mohamed, Andrew Helfers crossed the line in 14th place with a time of 25:32.4. Gabriel Best finished shortly after in 16th place at 25:34.6, while Caleb Darsey rounded out the top 20 by finishing 19th in 25:38.9. Freshman Eli Corn completed the scoring five for Augusta, finishing 32nd with a time of 26:09.2.

Additional contributions came from Francisco Palacios, who placed 36th in 26:22.6, followed by Benjamin Hall in 38th place at 26:29.1, and Jackson Musto, who finished 49th with a time of 26:45.5. The overall team standings indicated that Charlotte took the first position with a total of 23 points, followed by North Carolina with 51 points. Augusta’s performance outclassed other notable Division II teams such as Fayetteville State, which finished fifth with 191 points, and Wingate, which secured ninth place with 249 points.

The Jaguars will return to competition on Friday, September 26, when they participate in the Bobcat Invitational in Milledgeville, Georgia. This marks the continuation of a promising season for the Augusta University men’s cross country team, which opened its season on September 5 at the Converse Kick Off in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Augusta is coming off a successful previous season where they were crowned the Peach Belt Conference champions, and heading into the current season, they were predicted to win the league again according to a preseason coaches’ poll. The Jaguars received six first-place votes, amassing a total of 62 points in the poll. Their previous season saw them finishing second at the NCAA Southeast Regional and securing a spot in the NCAA National Championship, where they achieved an 18th-place finish overall. Senior Jordan Robertson made history during that championship by becoming Augusta’s first cross country All-American, finishing 32nd in the national rankings.

Looking ahead, the Jaguars have a full schedule of races designed to prepare them for the upcoming challenges. Key dates in their race schedule include:

  • September 5 – Converse Kick Off (Spartanburg, S.C.)
  • September 12 – Queen City Invitational (Charlotte, N.C.)
  • September 26 – Bobcat Invitational (Milledgeville, Ga.)
  • October 10 – Royals Challenge (Charlotte, N.C.)
  • October 25 – Peach Belt Conference Championships (Milledgeville, Ga.)
  • November 8 – NCAA Southeast Regional (Wingate, N.C.)
