Augusta, GA – Augusta senior Nasrudin Mohamed has been honored as the Peach Belt Conference Runner of the Week following an outstanding performance at the Queens City Invitational, where he played a pivotal role in leading the Jaguars to a commendable third place overall finish.

At the Queens City Invitational, which took place recently, Mohamed secured an impressive eighth place out of a competitive field, clocking a time of 25:08.4 in the 8K event. His performance marked the fastest time recorded in the Peach Belt Conference this season.

The Augusta men’s cross country team collectively scored 121 points during the event, resulting in an average finish time of 25:36 over the challenging 8K course. The team’s strong finish included four athletes placing in the top 20, with Mohamed leading the charge. Alongside him were Andrew Helfers, who finished 14th with a time of 25:32.4; Gabriel Best, who placed 16th with a time of 25:34.6; and Caleb Darsey, who took 19th place, recording a time of 25:38.9. Freshman Eli Corn also made a notable contribution, finishing 32nd with a time of 26:09.2, while other team members included Francisco Palacios (36th, 26:22.6), Benjamin Hall (38th, 26:29.1), and Jackson Musto (49th, 26:45.5).

In the team standings, Charlotte led the pack with 23 points, followed by North Carolina with 51 points. Augusta’s performance solidified its position as a leading competitor in Division II, successfully surpassing all other Division II programs competing, including Fayetteville State (5th) and Wingate (9th).

The Augusta women’s cross country team also showcased their talents at the Queens City Invitational, finishing ninth overall in the 5K event. The women’s team scored a total of 258 points with an average time of 19:28 per runner. Leading the team was freshman Gabriella Burton, who finished 64th with a time of 19:13.5. Notable performances from other women included Grace Gyetko in 67th place with a time of 19:20.6, Amelia Ogden in 69th place with 19:23.3, Josabeth Graciano in 88th with a time of 19:41.0, and Elkin Regina finishing 89th at 19:42.5.

In addition, the women’s team outperformed several regional rivals, including Wingate (11th) and USC Aiken (18th). The team had a broad field of competitors, ranging from Gabby Jourdain, who finished 92nd at 19:47.5, to Katlin Malone, who concluded the race in 198th place with a time of 32:04.2.

Both the Augusta men’s and women’s cross country teams will continue their season at the upcoming Bobcat Invitational scheduled for Friday, September 26, in Milledgeville, GA.
