Augusta, GA – The community of Augusta mourns the recent loss of three prominent residents: Jerry Swafford, Sarah Seago, and Edwin Latimer Douglass Jr. Each of these individuals made significant contributions to the lives of those around them and will be remembered fondly by their families and friends.
Jerry Swafford
Jerry Swafford, 61, passed away on October 17, 2025. Originally from Decatur, GA, Jerry spent many years residing in Augusta. He was known for his love of animals, especially cats, and had a passion for watching sports. Jerry leaves behind his mother, sister, and many extended family members and friends who cherished him.
The family will hold a visitation on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place at Westover Memorial Park, located at 2601-Wheeler Rd, Augusta, GA 30904. A memory shared by a loved one reflects the sentiment, “Until we meet again Jerry. John 3:16.”
Sarah Seago
Sarah Seago’s passing has also left a void in the Augusta community. A proud graduate of Augusta Junior College, Sarah achieved the highest honors during her studies. She dedicated an impressive 33 years of service to Georgia-Pacific and was known for her love of animals, particularly her horses and dogs. Sarah was actively involved in her community as a devoted member of Gracewood Methodist Church, where she served as Treasurer.
Sarah is survived by her brothers, Richard Seago and Robert Seago. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Flora Seago Sr., as well as her siblings. Family and friends will gather for visitation one hour prior to the funeral service, which is scheduled for Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, located at 2700 Deans Bridges Road, Augusta, Georgia.
Edwin Latimer Douglass Jr. (Edo)
Edwin Latimer Douglass Jr., affectionately known as Edo, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 25, 2025, at the remarkable age of 91. Born on May 25, 1934, in Augusta, he was the son of Mildred Garrett Douglass and Edwin Latimer Douglass. Edo had an accomplished academic record, having graduated from Richmond Academy and Davidson College, where he was active in various organizations, including Beta Theta Pi and the men’s golf team. He received the Distinguished Alumni Service Award from Davidson in 2005.
Edo served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Seoul, South Korea. In his professional life, he was a successful businessman and entrepreneur, owning multiple businesses in the CSRA. Throughout his career, Edo held several leadership roles, including serving as President of the Southern Hardwood Lumber Association, Augusta Country Club, and the Georgia-Carolina Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Silver Beaver Award. Additionally, he was an Elder and third-generation member at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Edo is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Anne Lindgren Douglass, along with a daughter, a son, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a cousin. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Dr. Thomas Garrett Douglass. A memorial service to celebrate Edo’s life will be held at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church on July 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church or The Augusta Golf Team through the Augusta University Foundation.
