ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia sits alone at the top of a major composite college football ranking after its rain-soaked 20-17 win at Alabama and Texas’ second-half collapse against Oklahoma, a reshuffle that also lifted Miami and Notre Dame just behind the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs posted an average ballot ranking of 1.2 among the panel’s voters, short of a unanimous No. 1 but wide enough to frame Kirby Smart’s team as the clearest national-title pacesetter entering the season’s second half.

Georgia’s case rests on the Tuscaloosa result and an unbeaten resume while other SEC contenders stumbled. Texas dropped after the Red River loss, and the same weekend chaos that elevated Georgia also scrambled the middle of the ranking board.

Miami and Notre Dame occupy the next tier in the same composite, setting up a stretch in which those brands will try to keep pace with the Bulldogs’ SEC gauntlet.

Separate Top 25 media ballots likewise placed Georgia first with 66 of 70 first-place votes after the Alabama win, reinforcing the consensus even when individual voters split over Miami or Notre Dame.

For Georgia, the ranking bump lands one week before Auburn visits Athens, turning the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry into an early measuring stick for a team now treated as the sport’s standard.

Smart’s group still has to convert poll position into November wins, but the Alabama road victory gave voters a concrete data point after five lopsided tune-ups.

Poll position will not score points in Athens, but it does raise the stakes for a Georgia team that spent a month waiting for a signature win and now has to defend the top line every Saturday.
