Ballot drop box set in a brick wall

ATLANTA, Ga. — Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff holds a lead of nearly seven points over Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Collins in a new statewide poll, while the races for governor and lieutenant governor further down the ballot are effectively even.

Quantus Insights surveyed 755 likely Georgia voters from Oct. 15 through Oct. 17, with early voting already underway. The margin of error is 3.8 percentage points.

In the Senate race, Ossoff drew 51.8% to 44.9% for Collins, and 2.9% were undecided. Ossoff carries women 56% to 40%, while Collins leads among men 51% to 47%. Independents, about a quarter of the sample, break for Ossoff 56% to 35%. Voters under 30 favor the incumbent by 41 points, and those 65 and older lean to Collins by nine.

The contest to replace Gov. Brian Kemp is a statistical tie. Republican Rick Jackson leads Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms, a former Atlanta mayor, by 1.6 points with 4.5% undecided, and when those undecided voters were asked which way they lean, the result came out 49.0% to 47.5%. Bottoms runs about eight points behind Ossoff overall. Among Black voters she gets 82% to 10% for Jackson, below Ossoff at 89% to 7%, and suburban voters who favor Ossoff by 13 points tilt to Jackson by three.

For lieutenant governor, Republican state Sen. Greg Dolezal is ahead of Democratic state Sen. Josh McLaurin 47.3% to 46.6%, with 6.1% undecided, and Dolezal holds a 48% to 43% edge with independents.

The pollster noted that its Senate result sits about two points below public polling averages, which put Ossoff ahead by around nine. Political forecasters rate the governor contest a toss-up, and other recent surveys have shown President Donald Trump with weak approval in the state, as low as 33% in one. Election Day is Nov. 3.
