AUGUSTA, Ga. — Job seekers in Augusta can meet dozens of hiring employers in one room today. The regional Goodwill that serves Middle Georgia and the CSRA runs its fall hiring and resource event Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 10 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon. It takes place at Goodwill’s Snelling Conference Center, located at 3165 Washington Road.
Getting there early pays off. The earliest 50 arrivals are admitted at 9:30 a.m., a half hour ahead of the general crowd, so they can reach employers first. Anyone planning to go can also sign up ahead of time at no cost and skip the registration line at the door.
Employers are filling jobs in schools, health care, hotels and restaurants, factories, shipping and warehousing, and government. The employer list is long and mixes public agencies with private companies, including the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the Richmond County School System, Augusta University, Columbia County Government, the Columbia County Board of Education, the Aiken County Public School District, Amazon, Fifth Third Bank, Aiken Regional Medical Centers, Sage Valley Golf Club, Waffle House, the U.S. Army and the Fort Gordon Exchange.
Help beyond a paycheck will be in the room as well. Helms College, Harrisburg Family Healthcare, Goodwill Career Education and Restoration Pathways to Independence are setting up tables for people who need training, health care or other support.
Leah Pontani Small, the chief mission officer for the regional Goodwill, said the fair is meant for everyone from first-time job hunters to people chasing a career change or a leadership role, and that the goal is for each visitor to walk out with real contacts and a clear next step. Goodwill also suggests stopping by one of its Job Connection Career Centers beforehand, where staff can help polish a resume and practice for conversations with recruiters.
