FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots moved wide receiver Romeo Doubs to injured reserve Monday with a shoulder injury he suffered while scoring in Sunday’s win over the New York Jets.
Doubs came down hard on the shoulder after a diving grab in the end zone in the first quarter, a 42-yard touchdown that turned out to be his only catch of the day. He stayed on the turf, was checked by the medical staff and did not return. The 26-year-old has 14 receptions for 261 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Players on injured reserve must sit at least four games, which puts the earliest possible return after New England’s bye, at the Los Angeles Chargers on Nov. 29. Doubs is the third Patriots receiver to land on the list in six weeks. A.J. Brown went on it with a high ankle sprain from the opener against Seattle and returned only Sunday, and Mack Hollins was placed there with a calf injury after the Week 4 game at Buffalo.
That leaves just four wideouts, Brown, Kyle Williams, Efton Chism and DeMario Douglas, on the active roster, with Kyle Dixon, Chandler Brayboy and Cameron Dorner on the practice squad. To fill the roster spot, the team promoted defensive back Elliott Davison from the practice squad. Davison, 24, was called up for each of the past two games and saw snaps both on defense and in the kicking game. New England also added receiver Ryan Miller, lineman Jacob Rizy and guard Andrew Rupcich to the practice squad and let cornerback D’Shawn Jamison go.
The offensive line is banged up too, after Morgan Moses, Ben Brown and Alijah Vera-Tucker were all hurt against the Jets. On a short week, the Patriots play the Chicago Bears on Thursday night at Soldier Field.
