Ossoff Rallies Canvassers in Downtown Augusta Before Election

AUGUSTA, Ga. — U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff spent Friday afternoon in downtown Augusta, meeting with campaign canvassers as his closely watched re-election fight against Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Collins heads into its final days.

The Democrat used the stop to push an economic message aimed at household budgets. He told supporters he would work to end the war with Iran, roll back tariffs and bring back health care and Medicaid benefits, all positions he tied to votes and stances by Collins. Ossoff argued that those policies have pushed the cost of gas, groceries and home energy to record highs.

He also challenged Collins to hold a news conference right away to respond to allegations of white nationalist and antisemitic material being produced on property connected to the congressman, saying the issue should be addressed before voters make their choice.

Ossoff said he has spent months pressing the congressman to commit to stopping that content from being made on his property. With the allegations surfacing so close to the election, the senator called the matter disqualifying and said Collins owes voters an explanation.

The senator framed the stop around volunteers who will carry his message door to door in the closing stretch, as both campaigns work to turn out supporters across the Augusta area and the rest of the state.

Georgia’s Senate contest is one of the most closely followed midterm races in the country, drawing attention well beyond the state’s borders. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and Georgians who have not yet voted can find their polling place and early voting options through the state’s voter page.
