LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Georgia Tech volleyball gave unbeaten-in-conference Louisville a fight in the final set but could not steal one, falling 3-0 to the third-ranked Cardinals on Sunday. The scores were 25-19, 25-21 and 27-25.

The Yellow Jackets split their two matches for the week and now stand at 14-8 overall and 6-5 in the ACC. Louisville improved to 22-2 and 12-0 in league play.

Tech nearly forced a fourth set. After trailing 11-6 early in the third, the Jackets clawed back, tied it 19-19 on a block by Alida Bennour and Humphrey, and went ahead 23-22. Louisville closed it by scoring five of the last seven points. The Cardinals hit .485 in the second set, when a six-point run built a 16-10 lead that Tech could not erase.

Bennour led Tech with 17 kills, her 10th straight match in double figures, two days after a 33-kill night. The freshman passed 300 kills in her first season with the program and has 316 kills on the year, along with a team-best 49 service aces. Libero Mana Kaneko had a team-high 10 digs, and freshman Simone Heard set career highs with four kills and recorded her first career assist. As a team, Tech put down 38 kills, its best output this fall in any straight-sets loss to a ranked team.

Louisville’s Kalyssa Blackshear did the most damage, finishing with a career-high 21 kills while hitting .500.

Next up is a makeup match at Florida State in Tallahassee, set for a 6 p.m. start Tuesday. The Jackets then come back to O’Keefe Gymnasium for two weekend matches, with NC State visiting Friday night at 7 and Wake Forest coming in for a 1 p.m. Sunday start. Tickets for home matches start at $10.
