Augusta, Georgia – Stephanie Alnell Huguenin, a devoted humanitarian and educator, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at her home after battling an extended illness acquired during her missionary work in India. She was 48 years old.
Huguenin’s family invites friends to honor her memory at West Acres Baptist Church on Sunday, October 5, 2025. The visitation will take place from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Larry Harmon and Rev. Malone Morris. Additionally, a burial ceremony will occur at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in the family cemetery at Roseland Plantation in Coosawhatchie, South Carolina.
Huguenin is survived by her parents, David L. and Deborah Postell Huguenin, and her brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Stacey Huguenin. She also leaves behind three nephews: Camden Calhoun Gantt, Thayer Reed Huguenin, and Reynolds Abram Huguenin, all of whom reside in Evans, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alvin and Dot Postell, Frances Rice Huguenin, and Edward P. Huguenin, Jr.
Early Life and Education
Born on August 17, 1977, in Augusta, Georgia, Huguenin attended Lakeside High School, where she was known for her leadership qualities and was voted Miss Lakeside and Homecoming Queen, in addition to her participation on the soccer team. She furthered her education at the College of Charleston, graduating with honors in 1999. While studying in Charleston, she dedicated her time to Jenkins Orphanage, providing guidance and care to children in need.
Mission Work and Career
Following her graduation, Huguenin traveled to India, volunteering at Mother Teresa’s orphanage, where she displayed extraordinary compassion and commitment to helping the less fortunate. After spending many years in Manhattan, New York, where she earned a Master of Arts degree at NYU, Huguenin returned to her hometown of Augusta after the passing of her grandparents, recognizing the fleeting nature of life.
In her professional career, she worked with the Medical College of Georgia in the science and physics department, where she appreciated engaging with students and contributing to their education.
Community Involvement and Interests
A lifelong member of West Acres Baptist Church, Huguenin was also a passionate supporter of environmental organizations, including the Nature Conservancy, Low Country Land Trust, Coastal Conservation League, Long Leaf Alliance, and Women in Defense. Her interests included reading, outdoor activities, and spending time on her family farm in South Carolina.
Health Challenges
Throughout her life, Huguenin faced significant health challenges, undergoing treatment at prestigious medical institutions such as Albert Einstein Hospital, the Mayo Clinic, and Emory. Despite these hardships, she was remembered as a compassionate individual who touched many lives. Now, she is at peace and comforted by Jesus.
