AUGUSTA, Ga. — Trick-or-treaters across Augusta and the rest of the CSRA should get a comfortable, gray Halloween, with clouds overhead, temperatures in the 70s by day and little chance of rain through most of the weekend.
The National Weather Service forecast for Richmond County calls for a mostly cloudy Saturday with a high near 74 and a northeast breeze of 9 to 13 mph. Saturday night should settle to a low around 55 under mostly cloudy skies, so a light jacket may help late in the evening.
Forecasters at the local station expect a stalled front to stay well southwest of the region, keeping the steadiest rain along Interstate 75 and farther west. That means anyone driving to Atlanta should pack rain gear for Sunday more than for Saturday.
Sunday starts cloudy and should turn mostly sunny, with a high near 72. The weather service gives a 30 percent chance of showers Sunday night, mainly before 2 a.m., with less than a tenth of an inch of rain possible.
The front edges closest on Monday, Nov. 2, but the deepest moisture is expected to stay south of the area. Light drizzle is about all that is likely, with highs near 75. For Election Day on Tuesday, voters heading to the polls should see some sun breaking through and temperatures climbing into the upper 70s.
Later next week is worth watching. An upper-level low forming over the Deep South could push a line of storms from Arkansas toward the CSRA in the Wednesday to Thursday window. It is too early for details on timing or whether any storms turn severe, so families with outdoor plans late in the week should check back as the forecast firms up.
