News Summary

Amazon announces the development of ‘Project Azalea’, a new delivery station covering 169,104 square feet in Augusta, Georgia. The station will be built on a historical site and is part of Amazon’s larger plan to expand logistics operations with additional facilities nationwide. Alongside logistics growth, the company is also investing in local education through scholarships for aspiring tech students, showcasing its commitment to the community’s future.

Exciting Times in Augusta as Amazon Unveils ‘Project Azalea’

All eyes are on Augusta as Amazon gears up to build a brand-new delivery station, delightfully dubbed “Project Azalea.” This exciting new addition will cover a sprawling area of 169,104 square feet, marking a significant expansion for the tech giant in the region.

The New Hub Location

So, where exactly will this buzzworthy project sprout? The delivery station is set to bloom on approximately 45 acres of a 65-acre site located at the intersection of Doug Barnard Parkway and Dan Bowles Road. Interestingly enough, this land has a rich history dating back to the 1930s when it was primarily known for brick production by companies like Meridian Brick and Boral Brick.

Fast forward to 2018, when EdenCrete Industries swooped in to purchase the property with grand plans for development. Now, after an appraisal showcasing the site’s worth at a cool $5 million, the property is changing hands again, this time to accommodate the ever-expanding logistics network of Amazon. In fact, in 2024, Eden Innovations announced they were selling this prime real estate as part of a strategy to streamline production in Littleton, Colorado.

Part of a Bigger Picture

But wait, there’s more! This delivery station is just one piece in a massive puzzle. Amazon is reportedly looking to rake in up to $15 billion to supercharge its logistics network across the U.S., eyeing around 80 new facilities in total. With this kind of growth, it’s no wonder that Augusta is gaining traction as a key player in Amazon’s footprint.

The Growing Amazon Presence

The Augusta area has already experienced a taste of Amazon’s benefits. Back in April 2020, state officials announced a colossal 600,000-square-foot Amazon facility situated in Columbia County. That facility swung open its doors in October 2021 and is set to employ 800 people! In addition to this exciting new delivery station, residents can take pride in the existing fulfillment center and sortation center at White Oak Business Park near Appling.

Empowering Local Students

But Amazon’s impact isn’t limited to logistics and job creation. The company is also making waves in education through its Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship program. In 2025, Amarri Robinson from Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Augusta was one of the exceptional recipients of this scholarship. The program generously provides up to $40,000 over four years for students keen on pursuing degrees in computer science or engineering, backed by paid internships at Amazon. It’s a fantastic opportunity that not only honors academic excellence but also values leadership, community involvement, and future aspirations.

A Recognition to Remember

Each year, over 400 students nationwide receive this scholarship, and Georgia can be especially proud of its 29 honorees. The selection process is thoughtfully managed in collaboration with Scholarship America, making sure deserving students get the recognition they so richly deserve.

What’s Next for Augusta?

As Augusta prepares to welcome this new delivery station, the city is not just looking at the immediate benefits of job creation and logistics expansion. This development strengthens the community and offers exciting educational opportunities that can shape the lives of local students. With Amazon’s commitment to growth and community involvement, residents can look forward to a bright and bustling future.

Stay tuned, Augusta, because with Project Azalea, the best is yet to come!
