The suspect in the shooting has been identified as James Blake Montgomery, who was reportedly located in a camper near Mile Marker 194 on Belair Road. Following the shooting, local law enforcement officials utilized helicopters and drones in the pursuit of Montgomery to ensure public safety and facilitate the capture of the suspect.

James Blake Montgomery had a previous legal history, including being charged with felony aggravated assault in December 2022; however, he was later exonerated.
