Thompson, born on December 9, 1944, in Daytona Beach, Florida, was a passionate advocate for historic preservation and community involvement. As president of the Olde Towne Preservation Association, the fundraising nonprofit for Living History Park, she played a critical role in the park’s operations until her death. Under her leadership, the park, which was founded in 1991, became dedicated to preserving the region’s Revolutionary War history, featuring a replica 18th-century village spread across more than seven acres.
Thompson’s impact on the community extended beyond the park. She was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Augusta, where she served as the wedding coordinator. In recognition of her contributions, she was named Citizen of the Year by the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce in 2011. Additionally, she was an advocate for adopted children and displayed her artistic flair as a talented interior decorator.
In her commitment to historic preservation, Thompson restored the B.C. Wall House, also known as Sesame Lodge, which dates back to 1902. This restoration project highlighted her dedication to maintaining the region’s historical integrity.
