Augusta – A tragic shooting at a convenience store in Augusta resulted in the death of 28-year-old Raekwon Brinson. The incident took place on July 10, 2025, at The One Stop convenience store located at 2382 Barton Chapel Road. Authorities confirmed that Brinson was shot at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the incident.

Coroner Mark Bowen reported that Brinson was standing in the doorway of the store when he was attacked. Emergency responders arrived, but he was declared dead at 2:52 PM. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the official cause of death.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) is treating the shooting as a homicide, with detectives working diligently on the investigation. They have identified Camron Jakai Brown, a 20-year-old, as the primary suspect in Brinson’s death. Brown is known to frequent the 2300 block of Barton Chapel Road and has been described as armed and dangerous. A photo of Brown has been released to the public as law enforcement seeks information on his whereabouts.

Crime scene technicians were seen gathering evidence outside the convenience store, which was cordoned off with yellow tape during the investigation process. RCSO has requested that anyone who may have witnessed the incident come forward and contact them at the designated number, 706-821-1000, as they work to gather more information related to the case.

This incident occurs against a backdrop of rising violent crime in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA). Over the past three years, the CSRA has experienced a troubling increase in crime rates, with hundreds of deaths reported. The community is deeply affected by this surge in violence, prompting local authorities to focus on public safety and crime prevention strategies.

The Richmond County community is reeling from the loss of Brinson, with many expressing their condolences and concerns about the state of safety in the area. As the investigation unfolds, the Sheriff’s Office remains committed to bringing justice to those affected and apprehending those responsible for this tragic event.

As this situation develops, updates will be disseminated by law enforcement agencies. Those who may have information are urged to step forward to assist in resolving this case and help curb the rising crime wave in the region.
