ATLANTA, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Transportation has handed out 25 road and bridge contracts worth roughly $62.8 million from its September letting, and repaving work accounts for most of the money.
Bids came in on Sept. 18, and the department awarded the work to the lowest qualified bidders on Oct. 2. A supplemental announcement on Sept. 30 added projects that had been deferred earlier.
Fourteen resurfacing jobs total about $39.7 million, or 63% of the September awards. The biggest is a $5.3 million job covering 14.06 miles of milling, inlay and shoulder work on State Route 23 Spur and State Route 192 in Emanuel County.
Five construction projects add up to about $17.3 million. The largest, at about $7.4 million, will repair a 0.21-mile slope along US 27 at Taylors Ridge in Chattooga County in northwest Georgia.
Two bridge rehabilitation contracts come to roughly $3 million combined. The larger, at $1.9 million, covers bridges carrying State Route 157 across Rock Creek and State Route 286 across the Conasauga River in northwest Georgia’s Walker and Whitfield counties. Four safety projects make up the remaining $2.8 million, topped by a $1.1 million upgrade of 10.38 miles of Zebina Road in Jefferson County that adds new signs, markings and shoulder repairs.
With September counted, Georgia has awarded construction contracts for the 2027 budget year, which started July 1, totaling about $502.1 million. That total includes Transportation Investment Act, design-bid-build and locally administered work. The fiscal year ends June 30, 2027.
Firms that want to bid, including disadvantaged, small and veteran-owned businesses, have to prequalify with the department before they can bid on or work on state projects.
