Augusta, Georgia — The community of Augusta is mourning the loss of two beloved members, Jane Jackson Johnson and Doris Lynn Thompson, who recently passed away at the ages of 85 and 52, respectively. Their contributions to the community and their families have left a lasting impact that will be cherished by many.

Jane Jackson Johnson, who passed away on August 5, 2025, surrounded by family, was born on July 30, 1940, in Lenoir, North Carolina. She moved to Georgia as a child and graduated from Evans High School in 1957. In 1966, Jane married Joe R. Johnson, and together they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Jane played a significant role in her family, welcoming her daughter, Becky Johnson Etheridge, in 1969, and later becoming a loving grandmother to Collin and Mason Etheridge.

An active member of Abilene Baptist Church for 45 years, Jane contributed to her community through her participation in the Adult Sanctuary Choir and various ministries. Before retiring, she held multiple positions, including roles at Columbia County Waterworks, Human Resources, and for several doctors in the Medical Arts Building. Her retirement allowed her to focus on caring for her grandsons, who meant the world to her.

Jane is survived by her husband Joe, daughter Becky (Lee), brother William “Bill” Jackson, grandsons Collin Lee and Mason Joseph Etheridge, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother David Vernon Jackson (Marion), sister June Brown Lancaster, and several nieces and nephews. A visitation for Jane is scheduled for August 9, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Platt’s Funeral Home, followed by her funeral service on August 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Abilene Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens. In her memory, love offerings may be made to Abilene Baptist Church.

Doris Lynn Thompson passed away on August 6, 2025, leaving behind a loving family that included her husband, Marcus Thompson, her high school sweetheart, and their children Abigail and Andrew. At 52, Lynn was characterized by her quick wit and loving nature, which influenced many in her life. She is also survived by her brother Wally Wesson (Amy) and several cousins.

Friends and family of Lynn will gather for a reception on August 11, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Warren Baptist Church in Augusta, followed by a celebration of Lynn’s life at 2:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Dr. David McKinley, with burial being private. Lynn’s loved ones have shared reflections on her strength and the significant impact she had on their lives.

As the community bids farewell to Jane and Lynn, their legacies of love, friendship, and dedication continue to resonate among the many who were fortunate enough to know them. Both women exemplified the values of family and community, and their memories will be cherished for years to come.
